Uniformed Public Services (Protective Services) Level 3
This Uniformed Public Services Level 3 study programme is designed to provide you with an in-depth introduction to the sector. It provides an ideal route to protective services career pathways, and you will study Leadership and Teamwork in the Public Services, Citizenship, Diversity and the Public Services, Understanding Discipline in the Public Services, Physical Preparation, Health and Lifestyle for the Public Services. There will be a variety of class-based academic and practical learning as well as a placement in a sport setting. You will complete a programme of study that includes employability, volunteering and English and Maths.
What topics are covered?
There are 18 units covered by this programme including:
- Physical preparation and fitness
- Team development and team leadership
- Citizenship and the public services
- Land-based skills
- Understanding discipline
- Crime and its effects
- Outdoor expeditions (including expeditions in wild country)

Who is the course aimed at?
This course is most suited for people aged 16-18 who are just starting (out on their) vocational learning.
What are the entry requirements?
Five full GCSEs at grade C/4 or above including English language and preferably maths; or a BTEC Level 2 Diploma in Public Services at merit level; or equivalent qualifications.
What qualifications will I gain?
BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Uniformed Public Services
Who is the awarding body?Edexcel
How will I learn?
You will cover theoretical elements of the course in the classroom, supplemented by practical application. You will go on a range of expeditions and visits outside of the College.
What hours will I be in college?
This full-time course runs for an average of 15 hours per week. Additionally, you will be expected to study and complete course work and assignments.
How will I be assessed?
There will be practical and written assignments.
What can I do after this course?
This course is equivalent to three A-levels; you will be able to access undergraduate courses at university.You can progress to employment in the uniformed services industry e.g. Police, Armed Services, Fire/Ambulance Service, Customs & Excise, etc.
Are there any additional costs?
Polo shirts (including at least one College polo shirt in blue and one in grey) to be worn in practical sessions and classrooms
What funding is available?
If you are aged 19 or over you may be eligible to apply for a 19+ Advanced Learning Loan to cover your tuition fees.
